Experimental Facilities

The lab is equipped to investigate solid surfaces at atomic dimensions. The centerpiece of the lab is an ultra high vacuum (UHV) system with a base pressure of 1 x 10-10 Torr. The chamber is equipped equipped with;
  • An Omicron variable temperature (300-600 K) MicroSTM scanning tunneling microscope (STM)
  • An OCI Vacuum Microengineering low energy electron diffraction (LEED) Instrument
  • An Omicron Cylindrical Mirror Analyser (CMA) based Auger electron spectrometer (AES)
  • in-situ evaporation capabilities.

In addition we have access to a X-ray photoelectron spectrometer (XPS). The machine includes:
  • an attached surface science chamber which allows for in-situ sample preparation,
  • and the chamber has facilities for the evaporation of organic molecules.
